Name-Based Case Searches
Circuit and Chancery electronic searches start with Public Access to Mississippi Electronic Courts, or PAMEC. Think of PAMEC as the public reading window for participating MEC courts across the state. It is not a free, anonymous Walthall County lookup. Before the live case-search fields open, you need a public non-attorney account. The account is read-only. It is built for viewing eligible case information rather than filing anything.
- Identify whether the Walthall County matter is Circuit, Chancery, Justice, or Tylertown Municipal Court before entering a search.
- Open PAMEC and register or sign in if the case belongs in participating Walthall County Circuit or Chancery electronic records.
- Use the party name only after selecting the proper court context. Preserve spelling variations and the approximate year when a common name produces several results.
- Open the matching Walthall County case and read the chronological docket entries separately from any document-image links.
- Use the maintaining clerk when the electronic result is absent, restricted, older than the electronic system, or needs certification.
Without logging in, PAMEC shows account controls, not a live Walthall County case-search form. So any specific claim about a last-name filter, a date box, or a results column would be guesswork. Search with the court name, the party information printed on your notice, and a case number if you have one.
Walthall County Docket Registration
Electronic access to Walthall County Circuit and Chancery dockets begins with a PAMEC account. Registration asks a public user to pick the non-attorney option, enter personal and organization details, answer security questions, and choose a payment method. The annual public registration fee is $10. PAMEC notes that paying online by card, debit, or e-check can be faster than mailing a check. A mailed check slows activation.
PAMEC's public terms lay out the account rules and page-return billing that apply to Walthall County electronic searches. That terms page is worth a close read. It reminds you that the public system is an account service. It is not an open web search box.
A PAMEC account does not replace the Walthall County clerk. The clerk still locates a paper file, explains a restriction, or issues a certified copy.
Case Number Searches
The case number is the strongest Walthall County search key. It ties the record to one particular court. Keep it exactly as it appears on a summons, order, citation, or docket printout. Mississippi publishes no verified Walthall County case-number pattern, such as a year-prefix formula. So do not borrow a format from another court. A number used by Circuit Court does not prove placement. It does not put a Justice Court ticket or a Tylertown Municipal Court matter in Circuit Court.
When a notice hands you a number, keep it in a form such as [court-assigned case number]. Do not invent a code. Give the clerk the court name and the number. Add the approximate filing year and the case type. With that combination, Walthall County staff can tell an electronic case apart from a lower-court, paper, or transferred matter.
Note: A number on an old notice may point to a historical index. Ask the Walthall County clerk which system or file location holds it now.
Walthall County Docket Security
Registration also builds in security. The public PAMEC sequence requires two security questions with answers, plus a captcha, before you reach payment selection. Those fields protect the account you use for Walthall County electronic access. They are not case-search filters, and they offer no way to search Justice Court or Tylertown Municipal Court tickets. Keep account maintenance separate from a request for a specific Walthall County court file.
PAMEC's official security-questions form lists the two required prompts, answer fields, and captcha entry. It also has a control for an unreadable code. It documents the registration steps. It does not reveal live Walthall County case data.
A forgotten username, a password problem, a payment issue, or a technical glitch goes to PAMEC's account help route. A Walthall County docket correction, restriction, or certified-copy question goes to the clerk. Keep those two doors straight.
Walthall County Docket Routing
Walthall County splits its records across offices. Circuit Clerk Dan Hawn keeps the Circuit Court dockets. They cover felony criminal cases and major civil matters. Chancery Clerk Shannon Fortinberry handles Chancery records. They cover domestic relations, probate, land and equity, guardianship, conservatorship, adoption, and related matters. Justice Court clerk LaShanda Magee runs a separate lower-court route for small claims, misdemeanors, preliminary felony stages, and traffic outside the municipalities.
| Walthall County route | Best first search path | When to call |
|---|---|---|
| Circuit criminal or major civil case | PAMEC if electronic and public | For a no-result, certified copy, or paper-file question |
| Chancery family, probate, land, or equity case | PAMEC Fourth Chancery access if electronic | For restricted documents or older records |
| Justice Court claim, misdemeanor, or county traffic | Clerk and Magnolia Avenue counter | There is no verified public Walthall online form |
| Tylertown municipal citation or ordinance matter | Ticket and municipal-court contact | There is no verified public city portal |
This split matters more than any broad name search. A Walthall County case can be absent from PAMEC because it sits with Justice Court or Tylertown Municipal Court, not because it never existed.
Case Search Results Explained
A Walthall County docket result is a chronological register, not a certified case file. Depending on the view, public information can include the court, case number, filing date, caption or party roles, judge, dated entries, status, and a setting. One caution: a docket entry may show that a motion, order, plea, judgment, or notice was filed without displaying the filing itself.
| Case number | The court-assigned identifier used to match the Walthall County file. |
|---|---|
| Caption or style | The formal case title or the party roles shown by the public view. |
| Chronological entry | A dated record of a filing, hearing, order, or other court event. |
| Setting | A hearing or court event, if displayed; the newest notice or order should be confirmed. |
| Status or flag | A routing clue such as CLOSED, SEALED, Trial Pending, or BOUND OVER, not a substitute for the dated entry. |
For an order or judgment, request the signed document instead of reading a full conclusion into a brief Walthall County register label. The county's court case records path explains the difference between a docket sheet, a filed document, and certification.
Walthall County Docket Charges
PAMEC's public terms bill by the page, at $0.20 each, and that includes a one-page result even when nothing matches. Paying it proves nothing about the case. The charge only reflects what the system returned electronically. Broad searches rack up page fees. That happens before you land on the right court, so narrow the court first and hold onto the case number.
The official payment-method page lays out both choices: pay online or mail a physical check. Your selection is locked in when you submit, so follow the current PAMEC instructions rather than counting on fixing it later.
Still no Walthall County result? Check the court, the spelling, and the year again. Then call the clerk who keeps that category of case instead of running the same unbounded electronic search over and over.
Walthall County Docket Flags
The Walthall County Circuit and Chancery MEC court-information pages publish status flags that may sit beside a case. On the Circuit side you might see APPEAL, Arraignment Pending, BOUND OVER, Capias Pending, CLOSED, County Court Appeal, SEALED, STAYED, or Trial Pending. The Chancery page shares several of those and adds its own: EX PARTE, GAL, Minor_Child, Minor Ward, SHOW CAUSE ORDER, and markers for guardianship or accounting matters.
- BOUND OVER
- A Justice Court felony matter sent onward for Circuit Court handling after the preliminary stage.
- SEALED
- An access restriction, not a statement that the case was dismissed.
- Trial Pending
- A case condition or event marker that still requires the dated docket entry and current notice.
- EX PARTE
- A Chancery-related flag that requires care about what documents are public.
Flags are useful for steering a Walthall County docket inquiry in the right direction. They are no substitute for the dated entry or the signed document that actually says what happened.
Two Ways to Search: County and State
Walthall County searchers get two routes. One is local: the clerk counter. The other is statewide: PAMEC, which opens remote access to participating MEC Circuit and Chancery records once you register. The Walthall County clerk remains the fallback for public terminal access, certified copies, paper files, and case-specific questions. Under MEC procedures, free electronic access is available to the public at the clerk's office during regular business hours.
| PAMEC statewide layer | Walthall County clerk layer |
|---|---|
| Remote, registered access to participating electronic courts | Maintaining office for the identified court file |
| $10 annual public registration and $0.20 pages returned | Ask the clerk for current copy, retrieval, and certification charges |
| Read-only public access to eligible docket sheets and documents | Public terminal, paper-file, restriction, and certified-copy routing |
Federal cases live elsewhere. Walthall County falls in the Southern District of Mississippi's Hattiesburg/Eastern Division, so a federal matter belongs in PACER, not PAMEC. PACER's Find a Case service walks through the specific-court and nationwide routes.
The federal route does not replace a Walthall County state-court docket search. And the Walthall County clerks keep no federal case files.
Walthall County Docket Access Limits
A Walthall County electronic docket can show a case number, a date, an event, or a status. It can still hide most attachments. Under PAMEC's public terms, eligible subscribers may view non-restricted docket sheets, notices, and electronic documents. Access remains subject to access and page-billing rules. Even then, a document image might be chargeable. It could be blocked by case type or role, sealed by order, or open only at the clerk's office.
That distinction matters when the goal is one particular order, judgment, or filing. Record the entry date and title you can see. Then ask the maintaining clerk about the document. Ask whether it is public, available at the terminal, or behind a separate access procedure. The docket you can see still has value, even without the complete file.
Walthall County Docket History
Electronic coverage starts at different points in Walthall County. The Fourth Chancery MEC court-information page lists a go-live date of August 22, 2016. For Walthall County Circuit Court, the Fourteenth Circuit MEC page lists February 8, 2021. Those dates mark system adoption only. They do not promise that older files were scanned. Nor do they promise that every current record carries a public image.
Chasing an older Walthall County case? Give the clerk the approximate year, the court, the caption, and the type of document. Ask about the source. It might be a paper file, a bound docket book, microfilm, an older index, or an MEC record. That question beats treating a portal no-match as a final answer.
Which Cases Stay Restricted
Some Walthall County records are public only in part. Mississippi MEC rules restrict remote document access for sensitive Chancery case types. Those include child custody, child support, divorce, paternity, guardianship, conservatorship, and protection-from-domestic-abuse matters. A public header or docket sheet can coexist with a restricted or chargeable attachment. A "no permission" message may simply mean access is limited to attorneys of record.
Youth Court material carries its own confidentiality rule. Walthall County has no listed county court. Youth Court work therefore runs through the Chancery function. A general name search is not a dependable public route to juvenile records. A SEALED or EX PARTE label can mislead too. It does not mean the underlying case was dismissed.
Walthall County Docket Fallback
Electronic access can leave a Walthall County question unanswered. When it does, go to the office that maintains the record. Circuit Clerk Dan Hawn can be reached at 601-876-5677. Chancery Clerk Shannon Fortinberry is at 601-876-3553. Both Circuit and Chancery sit in the county courthouse at 200 Ball Avenue in Tylertown. Justice Court clerk LaShanda Magee, at 601-876-2311, handles Justice Court matters at 808 Magnolia Avenue.
Say exactly what you need. That might be a docket-only lookup, public terminal access, or the current procedure for a named document. Make clear whether you want inspection, a plain copy, or certification. Account and system problems go to the PAMEC helpdesk at 601-576-4650. That desk decides no Walthall County case. It issues no county-certified record.
Note: A newer signed notice or order may conflict with an older docket entry or term calendar. In that situation, the newest signed document controls the Walthall County setting.
